I am Madeline the farmer’s daughter.
I wonder if my father’s cow will ever calm down.
I hear the clomping of her hooves.
I see the cow circling in the grass, and my father watching.
I want to go inside and have lunch, but my father says,
“We have to calm down the cow first.”
I am wondering if the cow will ever calm down!
I pretend that I am sitting on the mountains that I can see in the distance.
I feel my stomach tighten with hunger.
I touch the folds in my dress.
I worry that my grandfather is using too much energy to calm the cow.
I cry out to my dad to tell him that I’m hungry.
I am curious if it will start to rain.
I understand why the cow is so happy, because it’s a very nice day outside
I say to the cow to calm down, so I can have lunch!
I dream that I am floating on the clouds over my head.
I try to help my father calm down the cow.
I hope that she will calm down soon.
I am standing here watching the cow run.
